Okonjo- Iweala, Alison-Madueke, Kola Aluko under investigation –EFCC

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, yesterday told the House of Representatives that former Finance minister and coordinating minister of the economy in former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is being investigated by the anti- graft agency.

Magu, who spoke before the Kayode Oladele- led Committee on Financial Crimes during the agency’s budget defence also said former minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke and a businessman believed to be her close associate, Kola Aluko, are persons of interest to the EFCC.

The EFCC boss said this when he responded to questions asked by a member of the committee, Razak Atunwa who had earlier asked whether the two ministers and Aluko were included in the investigative list of the anti-graft agency.

“Very soon, we will go into the petroleum industry,” was Magu’s reply.

He said such an investigation requires that “we have to build capacity, we have to bring in experts to enable us tackle what we are doing properly and the investigation must be conducted properly.

We have internal lawyers and external lawyers; we have to pay insurance.”

Meanwhile, Speaker Yakubu Dogara has said the National Assembly will soon begin work on its own version of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).

The speaker, made this known at a courtesy call by the international board of Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) and the Nigerian Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI) at the National Assembly yesterday.

He also said the bill, which is in final stages, will be given expeditious consideration on the floor of both chambers of the National Assembly.

Dogara told the delegation that in line with the resolve of the House of Representatives to fully cooperate with President Muhammadu Buhari to implement reforms in the oil, gas and mining sectors, the House will give both sectors priority attention.

“We have repeatedly, called on the executive to present reform proposals in the petroleum sector.

However, we may not continue to wait for an executive bill on this subject matter as we are prepared to introduce the National Assembly’s version; what we believe should be the legal framework for the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.”

“We cannot continue to take the blame for non-passage of the petroleum reform legislation in Nigeria.

As I speak with you, work on our own version has reached advanced stage and hopefully, we hope to introduce it in both chambers of the National Assembly.

If it happens that the executive transmits its own version of its own vision of the oil sector, we have ample provision in the House Rules for us to merge the two together.
We will not continue to wait.”

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday, in Abuja, began the interrogation of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh (rtd), over his role in the $2.1 billion arms purchase being probed by the anti-graft agency.

Badeh, who made a brief appearance at the commission’s headquarters last week, was directed to return yesterday

EFCC sources said the former defence chief was quizzed for several hours and as at 7 pm, he was still with his interrogators.
It was not clear whether he was detained or allowed to go home last night.

Efforts to get the agency’s spokesman, Mr Wilson Uwujare, to speak on the matter failed.

Several retired and serving top military officers, including the former chief of Air Staff in Jonathan’s administration, Vice Admiral Amosu , have been interrogated on the controversial arms deal.

Suspected Cultists Armed With Gun Blow Up Agip Pipeline In Rivers

The 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, said yesterday that suspected cultists have destroyed a pipeline belonging to the Nigeria Agip Oil Company.

A statement issued yesterday evening, by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Captain Eli Lazarus, said the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 7, at Agip’s gas facility in Akala Olu village in Oshie community, Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, thereby disrupting production activities.

The army further said the vandals were suspected members of Icelander cult group.

According to the statement, the vandals had threatened to carry out further acts of vandalism, unless their demands were met.

Captain Lazarus added: “The group demanded for the release of a detained suspect-one Mr. Emmanuel Odum, currently undergoing interrogation in connection with pipeline vandalism and cult-related activities.

“I wish to state categorically that, 2 Brigade will not be cowed into doing the bidding of any criminal group.

“For the avoidance of doubt, anyone caught destroying such critical national asset will be severely dealt with in accordance with the law.”

The 2 Brigade alleged that some politicians armed the youths thereby backing them to perpetrate criminal activities in the state

The army also warned that it would deal decisively with any person or group behind the sabotage done to the Nigerian economy, adding that any attempt to disrupt the forthcoming rerun elections in the state would receive dire consequences.

“Additionally, it is now known that some politicians are arming these groups and encouraging them with inciting comments to breach public peace.

“No one should be in doubt of the capacity of the military to deal decisively with such persons.
If anyone is caught breaching public peace, particularly during the forthcoming elections, such person or persons should have themselves to blame.

“Already, some suspected patrons and sponsors of these criminal groups are being closely monitored by security agencies.”

Lazarus appealed to the public to assist the Brigade with relevant information that could help in arresting such criminals

Osun State House Of Assembly Passes Land Use Charge Bill

The Osun State House of Assembly on Monday passed the State Land Use Charge Bill 2016.

The bill, which was sponsored by the executive, “seeks to make provision for the consolidation of all Property and Land Based Rates Law.”

According to a statement in Osogbo on Monday by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Mr. Olatubosun Oyintiloye, the bill was passed following a motion moved by the Leader of the House, Mr. Timothy Owoeye, for the third reading.
He added that the bill was seconded by member representing Ede South constituency, Nureni Adebisi, at the plenary.

Pronouncing the passage of the bill, the Speaker, Mr. Najeem Salaam, according to Oyintiloye, said its passage was delayed to ensure that affordable rate that would not put unnecessary burden on the people was arrived at.

The Speaker was quoted to have stressed that the present economic situation required that every property owner must contribute to support the government.

The statement partly read, “Mr. Speaker charged the executive to ensure effective sensitisation of the people to key in into the new law and see reason to pay the appropriate charges.

“He also called on the implementers of the new law not to hide under it to put unnecessary burden on the people, urging that the law should rather be used for the benefit of the people.

“Mr. Speaker then sought the understanding of the people over the new law and assured them that the state Assembly would monitor its implementation when assented to by the governor, to ensure its effectiveness to the extent that it would not add unnecessary burden on the people of the state.”

See The Best Valentine Gifts To Get for Your Loved Ones This Season 2016

The lover’s day is beckoning already and perhaps you are wondering what you should give to your beloved girlfriend/boyfriend.

It is obvious that you are spoiled for choice or it just your first experience.

No matter the case, you still need to impress your lovebird.

The great news is that there are so many things you can consider.

However, you must first understand the taste of your lover and get a gift that matches just that.

Here are some gifts that you should consider giving your lovebird this Valentine:

Candy

Yes! You heard me right. While most people may think that a candy is just but a simple or rather cheap gift, others see something special in the same.
A candy essentially symbolizes sweetness in love.
It shows how special your lovebird is in your life.
It communicates that you never want any another sweetheart other than your lovebird.

Teddy bear

This is a perfect gift for ladies.
You might look childish if you get a teddy bear as a man, right?
Now, the idea here is to look for the most attractive teddy bear and order it for your lady.
You can search for a red one in that case.
It works just fine.

A Card

A card is always outstanding for any person.
It works for both men and women.
How about getting a very pretty card and typing a very romantic message on it?
It doesn’t matter if you are proposing or trying to get back your lover.
You can be assured that your lover will fall for it with a card.

Music Disk

There is nothing as spicing as a disk complemented with sweet music and lyrics.
You can go ahead and order a disk that comprises romantic and attractive music.
For instance, a disk of Adelle music,Enya musics,Celion dion and others can work just fine.
She will definitely love it.
A copy of the latest movie will also work fine.

Cologne

It works for both men and women.
All you need is to ensure that the cologne you buy matches the preference of your man or woman.
It is all about taste and preference.

Body Care Lotion

Look after your lover’s skin by ordering an expensive body lotion for him/her.
You will be amazed how much they will love that.
A flavored body lotion is always ideal.

A Ring

Take advantage of this valentine and propose to her.
Look for a simple or expensive ring and buy it for her.
She will undoubtedly melt with love just for you.
This works for only those who are courting.

Chocolates

Who said that chocolates are good for valentine?
I don’t know myself but what I know is that there is something very special about chocolates.
Get a love container that has different flavored chocolates.
It works all the time.

Roses

They may not last long but one thing for sure is that roses are a perfect gift for valentine.
Ladies love flowers, roses in particular.
Just look for a single rose and you will be amazed how she will love it.
Be very certain with the color that she loves.

Bracelet

A branded bracelet will be a nice gift for your lover.
Look for a customizer and apply your lovers name on the bracelet. She will definitely fall in love with you more.

[Note] Important Management Lessons You All Must Learn From A 500 Naira Note (Must See)

MAKE A MOVE

1. It happened some time ago.
I was in an audience listening to a motivational speaker.
The speaker got out his wallet & pulled out a 500 Naira note. Holding it up, he asked, “Who wants this 500 naira note?” Lots of hands went up. Including mine. A slow chorus began to build as people began to shout “Me!” “Me!” I began to wonder who the lucky one would be who the speaker would choose. And I also secretly wondered (and I am sure others did too) why he would simply give away 500 naira.
Even as the shouts of “I want it” grew louder, I noticed a young woman running down the aisle. She ran upon to the stage, went up to the speaker, and grabbed the five 500 naira note from his hand. “Well done, young lady,” said the speaker into the microphone.
The speaker simply say “Most of us just sit and wait for good things to happen. That’s of no use. You’ve got to make things happen. Make a move” ‘Simply thinking about doing something is of no use and not good enough’. Our lives are like that. We all see opportunities around us. We all want the good things. But the problem is we don’t take action. We all want the 500 naira notes on offer. But we don’t make the move. We look at it longingly. Get up, and do something about it. Don’t worry about what other people might think.

TAKE ACTION

2. Later, the speaker got another 500 naira note and held it up for all to see, I thought I knew what’s up.
But he just asked a simple question. “How much is this worth?” “Five Hundred naira!” the crowd yelled in unison. “Right,” said the speaker. He then took the note and crumpled it into a ball and asked “How much is it worth now?”
“Five Hundred naira!” screamed the audience. He then threw the note on the ground, stamped all over it and picked up the note and asked one more time: “And how much is it worth now?” “Five Hundred naira!” was the response. “I want you to remember this,” said the speaker. “Just because someone crumples it, or stamps on it, the value of the note does not diminish.
We should all be like the 500 naira note..
In our lives, there will be times when we feel crushed, stamped over, beaten. But never let your self-worth diminish. Just because someone chooses to crush you — that doesn’t change your worth one bit!
Don’t allow your self-worth to diminish because someone says something nasty or does something dirty to you.” Never let your self-worth diminish.

Culled from Nairaland.
